Peschiera and Reineke win ICSA Singlehanded Championships, presented by Laser Performance
November 08, 2017

#2 College of Charleston’s senior and ICSA College Sailor of the Year frontrunner, Stefano Peschiera won the Laser Performance Men's Singlehanded Nationals in impressive fashion. A regatta, stacked with talent, showcased three previous champions, including Peschiera himself, who won the event as a freshman in 2014. Posting a scoreline with one race outside the top-7 positions, Peschiera walked away from the competition regardless of its strength. Mr. Peschiera finished with 50 points after 12 races, including 5 races inside the top-3. With only the Atlantic Coast Championship left to sail, Peschiera has put together a compelling campaign, winning his conference championship, A-Division at the Danmark Trophy and now the Singlehanded Nationals.

Week 8 College Sailing News
November 02, 2017

The Fall Nationals Championships are just around the corner, and competition is heating up around the country. #4 Hobart and William Smith won the War Memorial regatta (MAISA), #1 Yale won the Victoria Coffee Urn Trophy (NEISA), #10 MIT won the Professor Schell Trophy (NEISA) and #3 Charleston won the SAISA Fall Coed regatta.

#12 George Washington University won the MAISA Women's Fall Dinghy Championship, hosted by SUNY Maritime College. The regatta, on the shores of the East River, was dictated by the breeze, or lack thereof. The 8 race event, therefor was a stressful one for MAISA teams hopeful of a berth to the Women’s Atlantic Coast Championships with only 7 available.

The Colonials of GWU were impressive, finishing in the top-3 in each of the two divisions, including a B-Division victory by Riley Legault ‘19 and Andreea Rainey-Pace ‘20 with 11 total points after 4 races sailed.

#3 Georgetown wins the Truxtun Umsted Regatta, #2 Coast Guard Academy wins the Yale Women’s Interconference, and #4 Boston College are NEISA Match Race Champions.

#5 Charleston women win Navy Fall; #8 HWS and #14 St. Mary’s show strength; The Pacific Coast and the Mid-Atlantic qualify for Singlehanded Nationals

#5 College of Charleston women won the Jen Harris Navy Fall Women's Regatta after 17 races sailed in each of the 3 divisions. The lone, three division women’s regatta featured a laser radial division (C-Division). A regatta hosted by the United States Naval Academy, in a choppy southerly, the Cougar Ladies showed their strength. The victory, despite a 4th place finish in A-Division and a 2nd place finish in the laser division, was largely attributed to the Cougar’s B-Division boat of Paris Henken, Annacel Carrington and Elizabeth Mignon. The all-junior-boat, after starting the event with a 10th place finish, strung nothing but top-10s throughout the remainder of the event, including 13 top-3 finishes. They won a competitive B-Division fleet decisively with 51 points in 17 races, 35 points ahead of the next closest boat.

#6 College of Charleston won the 75th edition of the Danmark Trophy, held at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. The Danmark, traditionally, is one of the most competitive interconference regattas of the fall season. Scheduled at the beginning of October, it marks the beginning of autumn and the period where the chips start to hit the table with Conference Championships looming at the end of the month.
